Sutton United's next opponents Boreham Wood have signed defender Will Wright from Barnet. The move, completed on Tuesday, sees the 29-year-old join the National League leaders on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Wright brings extensive experience from over 130 National League appearances, primarily with Dagenham & Redbridge where he captained the side. He has also played 80 times in League Two for clubs including Swindon Town, Crawley Town and Gillingham, and helped Crawley achieve promotion in 2023. Standing 6ft 4in, he can operate as a centre-back, right-back or holding midfielder.

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard praised Wright's quality in possession and his fit for the club's style. The player himself expressed his excitement about the move. "It’s all very exciting," Wright said. "It’s obviously a very exciting time for the club, for myself and for the fans."

The signing bolsters a Boreham Wood side that currently sits top of the National League, 14 points ahead of 11th-placed Sutton United. Sutton, with 18 points from 12 games, host the leaders at home on 9 October in their next fixture. The U's recent form reads one win, three draws and one defeat from their last five outings.

Wright began his career at Luton Town's academy before senior spells with Biggleswade United and Colchester United. His arrival adds significant depth to the Wood's defensive options as they prepare for the trip to Gander Green Lane next week.
