Sutton Utd Head Coach Chris Agutter says the team is in a 'completely different universe' to the side that lost 2-1 to Altrincham last season. The U's are preparing for their first home game of the 2026/27 Enterprise National League campaign against the Robins on Saturday. Sutton head into the clash at the Borough Sports Ground full of confidence after opening the season with an impressive 3-0 victory away to Woking. Agutter believes the positive mood around the club has been building since the start of pre-season, with the summer recruitment and changes to the squad helping create a strong environment at the club. 'It's been positive and it's been a good energy around the place from day one of pre-season,' Agutter said. 'Since we made the signings over the summer and made the changes to the squad there's been a good feeling which has been extended through the off-season as well.' The 3-0 win was Sutton's biggest away opening-day victory in 59 years, but Agutter believes the performance itself was some way short of the level the team can ultimately reach, and he was keen to stress that there is still plenty of room for improvement. 'Probably the biggest positive was we were well short of what we can do and what we will be,' Agutter said. 'So that's just a great, great record, a great achievement.' 'But in terms of performance, there's loads of progress to be made, loads of improvements, and we'll stay together,' he added. With Sutton having endured a difficult start to last season, the Head Coach knows the importance of building momentum early in the new campaign. 'It's game at a time,' Agutter said. 'The next game, that's the attitude. It's a cliché for a reason because it's true.' 'We've got off to a great start, but you're only really ever as good as your last result in football,' he added. 'So, yeah, we look to build on the win against Woking with another win on our home patch, which is something that is obviously incredibly important to us.' Their next fixture is against Tamworth at home on 16th February 2027. Agutter is hoping for another strong turnout at home, saying 'We're looking forward to it. We've had a decent run of form in pre-season and, yeah, it's nice to be winning games of football on the home patch, but that's nothing compared to winning competitive games.' The Head Coach also revealed that the demands placed on the squad during training have increased since the Woking victory, with Agutter determined to prevent his players from becoming comfortable after one positive result. 'The biggest takeaway from the week is the level of demands, the intensity, the robust conversations, the standards being reinforced has been bigger than it's ever been this week,' Agutter stated. 'We're certainly not relaxing. We're off to a good start, getting comfortable. As I said, it's one game. It's three points. A very good three points against our rivals. But it means nothing if we don't build on it.'
