Sutton United have rejected an approach from a League One club for manager Chris Agutter. The club issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the decision and Agutter's full commitment to their project.

A club statement said the move reflects the strong relationship between Agutter and the board, and their shared belief in the direction and ambitions for the future. It added that the club is equally committed to supporting him as they build towards long-term objectives.

"I believe in what we're building here at Sutton United," said Agutter. "I've had honest conversations with the board about our ambitions, and we're completely aligned on where we want to take this club."

Agutter's impact

Agutter took charge in October 2025 with the team in the bottom four. He guided them to safety with two games to spare last season. His work has helped establish a platform this term, with Sutton currently 13th in the National League on 18 points after 13 games.

League One context

The approach came despite there being no current managerial vacancies in League One. Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United and Bradford City have all recently appointed permanent managers.

Agutter's focus now turns to the next fixture, a tough away trip to second-placed Harrogate Town on 24 October.
