Sutton Utd secured their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Truro City. The win at VBS Community Stadium on Saturday was settled by a goal from Emmanuel Osadebe just after the half-hour mark.
Osadebe found the net following a move involving Temi Babalola and Jordan Moore-Taylor, who made a welcome return to the starting lineup after injury. That solitary effort proved decisive in a match where Sutton were out-shot by their opponents.
Truro City managed 11 attempts to Sutton's seven, with three on target testing goalkeeper Spike Brits. Brits made several important saves, including a low stop to deny Zac Bell's volley and another to keep out Luke Jephcott's far-post effort, preserving a valuable clean sheet.
The result extends Sutton's current winning run to two games in all competitions, following a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion U21s in the EFL Trophy. It provides a timely boost ahead of a return to National League action, where the club currently sits 13th with 18 points from 13 matches, a record of five wins, three draws and five losses. Their recent league form has been mixed, with two wins, one draw and two losses in their last five games, leaving them 17 points behind leaders Boreham Wood. Across the season, they have scored 14 goals and conceded 18.
Their next challenge is a significant one, an away trip to face Harrogate Town, who are second in the standings. That league fixture is scheduled for next Saturday, 24 October, with a 12:30pm kick-off. This follows a busy period of results including a 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion U21, a 0-2 defeat to Boreham Wood, a 1-1 draw at Kidderminster Harriers, a 2-0 loss at Tamworth and a 3-3 home draw with Forest Green.
The team will now look to carry this cup momentum into their key league fixtures.
